Multilingual Multilogue at Kaunas Faculty of Humanities

zmogus kalbos erdveje 2014On May 16-17, the 8th international scientific conference “Man in the Space of Language” took place at the Faculty; the conference is organised by the Department of Foreign Languages. The conference had over 60 participants from all over the world: United Arab Emirates, France, Turkey, Taiwan, Iran, Georgia, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Ukraine, Latvia and Lithuania.

After the warm introductory speeches during the plenary session by the Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kęstutis Driaunys and the head of the Department of Foreign Languages Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jurgita Kerevičienė, Professor Omnia Amin (Dubai) talked about creativity and resistance in Jordanian female literature. Professor (HP) Eleonora Lassan (Vilnius University) introduced and analysed memory representation methods in lyric songs from different periods, and Professor Lauras Bielinis (Vytautas Magnus University) spoke on an especially relevant topic, i.e. the political communication act in modern politics. These scientists attracted a lot of attention from the audience and initiated a constructive discussion.

zmogus kalbos erdvejeThis year, the organisational board proposed several topics of discussion, i.e. linguistic research, discourse analysis, literary discourse analysis and translation studies. Different sections involved presentations and insights in different languages, presented research and their results, raised discussions and generated new ideas.

The first day of the conference ended in a joyful get-together with the folklore ensemble Uosinta (Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty of Humanities) during which guests from other countries got to know certain Lithuanian customs, traditions and games. Midway through the get-together, everyone could join in and dance.

By the end of the second day of the conference, a round table discussion “International Collaboration Opportunities” took place where participants generated many constructive ideas and made new, prospective contacts.

After the closing ceremony, everyone was invited on an excursion around the Kaunas city during which the most beautiful locations and interesting facts were introduced.
