The Institute of Social Sciences and Applied Informatics at the Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty is continuing the Prof. Vladas K. Gronskas seminar cycle, devoted to the analysis of a state’s sustainable development in the context of a mixed economy.

The nineteenth seminar "Concept representation methods and approaches. Concept maps and ONTO6 framework as examples" will take place on 27 October 2022 at 12.00 (language of the presentation - English).

About the author

Dr. Uldis Straujums is a professor at University of Latvia, Riga, Latvia. His scientific interests include knowledge engineering, ontologies, cognitive processes, e-study methodology and environments, improvement of programming learning, program testing and debugging. U. Straujums has more than 20 high level publications (h-index 3), has been part of industry developing software projects and has been involved in the planning and implementation of several national informatization projects.

The presentation gives an overview of approaches to define the term “concept” in several domains – philosophy, linguistics, engineering, mathematics, and especially in knowledge engineering.  The linguistic forms of concept representation as well as nonlinguistic forms are demonstrated. Concept maps and the author’s approach to identify significant concepts for a given domain – ONTO6 framework – are covered in more detail.
