Call for applications for the implementation of the scientific ideas of early career stage researchers in 2025-2026

studentai grupeVilnius University launches a specific call for early-stage researchers’ grants (up to 5 years after obtaining their PhD). This financial instrument aims to develop early-stage researchers’ skills and to strengthen their abilities to implement high-level research, innovation, and cultural development projects involving students from all levels. Successful applicants will receive funding for research implementation in the years 2025 – 2026. Vilnius University Research Promotion Fund funds these projects.

The call is open until 7 March 2025.

Project requirements:
The project should be interdisciplinary (representing at least 2 research fields) and should be implemented by at least 2 academic units of Vilnius University.
Maximum project duration: from 14 April 2025 to 31 December 2026.
The maximum amount per project is 18 000 Eur (up to 8 000 Eur for 2025; and up to 10 000 Eur for 2026).


Other possible project expenses:

  1. Expenses for services;
  2. Expenses for materials or goods;
  3. Secondment expenses.

Requirements for Principal investigator and other research team members:
The Principal Investigator should be either:

  • early career stage researcher of Vilnius University (PhD obtained up to 5 years before call deadline, excluding periods of pregnancy and childbirth and parental or maternity leave);
  • doctoral student;
  • master student.


Bachelor students can participate as Research team members.
Experienced researchers should not be included.
Principal Investigators and Research team members may be included in only one application. Principal Investigators and Research team members may participate in only one ongoing project funded by the Research promotion fund. Principal Investigators who are/were leading an external (national and/or international) funded research and experimental development project at the time of application are not eligible for this call.

Project funds shall be allocated to the academic unit that submitted the application.
The project manager and group members are employed in the department where they study or work if a salary is planned in the project budget.
Applications submitted to the call may be divided into groups according to the experience of Principal Investigators:

  1. Applications submitted by master, doctoral students;
  2. Applications submitted by early-stage researchers who obtained their PhD up to 5 years before the call deadline (excluding periods of pregnancy and childbirth, parental or maternity leave);

Project applications are submitted through the “Avilys” document management system of Vilnius University. Applications submitted by other means will not be accepted.
Principal investigators and other team members who have received funding from this call may apply for funding of these projects (ideas) to other external funding sources.

 

Informational Event "Key to Project Success: From Idea to Implementation"

On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, an event will be held for all young researchers of Vilnius University, as well as second- and third-cycle students, who plan to apply for the 2025 competition for funding Young Researchers' Ideas. The event will take place from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the Vilnius University Library, Scientific Communication and Information Center (SCIC), Saulėtekio Ave. 5, Vilnius.

During the event, participants will have the opportunity to learn from the experiences and insights of university researchers conducting interdisciplinary research, discover completed projects funded by the Research Promotion Fund, establish valuable connections, and share ideas.

People interested in presenting their ideas and collaborating with other researchers – please prepare a 5-minute presentation about your research field, your idea for a project and what kind of competencies you are looking for.
Depending on the number of participants, the event will be held in either Lithuanian or English. The information will be updated as the event date approaches.
