The Research Council of Lithuania is continuing its summer internship competition and announcing a call for the second stage – the submission of student applications – to encourage student involvement in research, strengthen their scientific skills, and support their career in science.
Submission of Student Applications: from 8 April 2025 to 8 May 2025 at 3:00 PM. A student may submit no more than two applications for summer internship positions in the Council’s electronic system at https://projektai.lmt.lt/#login
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS
Applications for student summer internship positions may be submitted by students who meet the following requirements:
1. The student is enrolled in the first (bachelor’s) cycle, second (master’s) cycle, or integrated study programmes, and is not in the final year of their studies on the last day of the application submission deadline indicated in the call;
2. The student’s weighted average of all course grades from the most recent semester is 8.0 or higher. In cases where the applicant is a student from a foreign higher education institution, the weighted average of all course grades from the most recent semester must correspond to at least 80% of the maximum weighted average used at that institution;
3. The student has not received funding under this measure to undertake a summer internship from 2022 onwards;
4. On the date of application submission, the student is not enrolled in doctoral studies and does not hold a doctoral degree.
The student shall not have any other employment relationship with the host institution for the duration of the summer internship, other than the employment relationship for the summer internship itself.
SELECTION OF STUDENTS
Once the student application period has ended, a selection process will take place:
1. The Council will carry out an administrative check of student applications;
2. Internship supervisors will assess each applicant by completing the Student Eligibility for the Summer Internship Topic evaluation form (Annex 6 of the Guidelines). The assessment will be based on the principles of transparency, impartiality, and fairness, taking into account the applicant’s motivation and academic achievements. Supervisors must also ensure that no students related to them by marriage, kinship, or affinity are selected for the internship.
Internship period: July–August 2025
Internship funding: €4,000 or €4,900 (in accordance with the provisions of Point 35 of the Guidelines). The student will receive a scholarship of €1000 per month (a total of €2000).
DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED
1. Student CV.
2. Student motivation letter.
3. Certificate of study results (ordered at the Faculty).
In their CV or motivation letter, the student should highlight their involvement in research activities:
• Participation in scientific research activities.
• Engagement in activities carried out by scientific group(s) at the academic institution.
• Involvement in student scientific societies and organization of conferences.
• Other informal activities, such as scientific clubs or interest groups.
The student should also emphasize their achievements:
• Published scientific papers, and received national awards;
• Employment in a research group;
• Presentations given at scientific conferences;
• Other awards and accomplishments.
• Justify their choice and motivation to undertake the summer internship on the proposed topic, demonstrating interest in the research area;
• Present their personal qualities and professional skills acquired during studies;
• Express their expectations on how experience in this research field would contribute to their professional development.
AFTER THE PRACTICE
Upon completion of the summer internship, or at another time specified in advance by the Council, students will present the results achieved during their internship at a conference organised by the Council. They will also be required to submit a free-form report electronically via the Council’s system, describing the new competencies acquired during the internship and the conditions provided by the host institution and supervisor that enabled the acquisition of these competencies.
