epson projekto dalyviai VU KNF webOn May 14-15, a meeting of the participants of the EPSILON project ("European Platform for Data Science: Incubation, Learning, Operations and Network") will take place at the Institute of Social Sciences and Applied Informatics, Kaunas Faculty, Vilnius University. The representatives from the project coordinator Harz University (Germany), as well as from Nova SBE School of Science, Business, and Economics (Portugal), Cyprus University (Cyprus), and Vilnius University (Lithuania) will come to Kaunas. In the meeting, the work of the project participants will be discussed, and the results and challenges of implementing data analytics clusters in the regions and attracting volunteers will be presented. VU Kaunas Faculty will be represented at the meeting by Prof. Dr. Dalia Krikšščiūnienė, Partn. Assoc. Prof. Dr. (HP) Virgilijus Sakalauskas and the Dean of the Faculty Assoc. Prof. Dr. Giedrius Romeika.

The project aims to improve the operational models of the European Data for Good initiatives and develop effective governance tools. It is also intended to establish a European knowledge platform and create a new Data for Good initiative in Lithuania. The experience and knowledge gained will be used to develop learning materials for students, university lecturers and data science enthusiasts.

Folklore ensemble Uosinta celebrates 45th anniversary

2024.05.18 Uosintos 45 šventėIn 1979, the idea of creating a folklore ensemble was born at the Kaunas Faculty of Humanities of Vilnius University. „Uosinta“ was named after the Uosinta stream, which flows near Čekiškės. The ensemble has brought up several generations of students, some of them have become famous scientists or businessmen, and „Uosinta“ has been successfully growing and nurturing the seedlings of folklore not only in the hearts of its members, but also in the hearts of its viewers and listeners until today. Auksuolė Šuliokienė has been the soul of Uosinta for the last three decades.
We invite all members and their friends and former leaders to the anniversary celebration on 18th May, promising great songs, a fun party, delicious cake and much much more!

14:30 – Opening of the photography exhibition „Uosinta - gyvoji tradicija“ at Kaunas Faculty (Muitinės g. 8, Kaunas, 1st block, 2nd floor)

New VU KNF Students’ Representation president A. Simonaitytė: student involvement is a priority.

Aurelija Simonaityte VU KNF SA Foto Andrius Lindzius WEBThe report-election conference of the Vilnius University Students' Representation at Kaunas Faculty (VU SA KNF) evaluated the work of 2023/2024 and elected a new president. The responsibility has once again been given to a student of Lithuanian Philology and Advertising.

"I am glad that you are responsibly curious", joked the Dean of VU KNF, Assoc. Prof. Dr Giedrius Romeika, while encrypting the name of SA. He is convinced that responsible curiosity is crucial for making the most of study time and opportunities. This is what he wished the students to do – to seize the opportunities and look beyond. The Dean thanked the students for their invaluable contribution to the improvement of the faculty’s study processes and their growing involvement in the implementation of the faculty’s strategic goals.

TELL ME MORE 2024: Translation Conference for Students and Early Career Researchers

The students and young scholars of all study levels are welcome to participate in the conference on translation TELL ME MORE, which will be held on 14 May 2024 at Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty (Muitinės str. 14) and online via Microsoft Teams.

We invite students to discuss scientific and practical problems of translation and present their research results. We also encourage lecturers to participate in the conference and present research with students as co-authors.

Participation in the conference is free of charge.

VU study fields ranked in the QS World Ranking

mentoriai studentaiThe latest QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 has announced the results of the fields of study of Vilnius University (VU). VU is ranked in three out of five areas of science and studies. In Arts and Humanities, Vilnius University is ranked 375th this year. In the physical sciences, it ranks 501–550, and in the social sciences, 451–500, out of a total of 1,599 ranked higher education institutions worldwide.

“We are proud to contribute to strengthening the potential of higher education in the fields of linguistics (Public Discourse Linguistics; English and Another Foreign Language (Swedish), economics (Sustainable Financial Economics; Economics and Management), management (Art Management, International Business Management), and information systems (Financial Technologies; Marketing Technologies). The study programs of the Kaunas Faculty are interdisciplinary and innovative, so the graduates acquire up-to-date knowledge and learn to manage and apply them using proven, long-lasting principles. The University’s strategic aim to increase the internationalization of science is equally important for our Faculty, so this autumn will mark an expansion of the number of programs taught in English – the study program Marketing Technologies will be taught in English as well”, – states Prof. Dr Daiva Aliūkaitė, the Vice-Dean of Academic Affairs at the Kaunas Faculty of Vilnius University.

Ernesta Varnelienė will talk about the peculiarities of exporting alcoholic beverages to the Asian market. After the lecture, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions. The lecture will be held in English.

Digital Humanities: from open source tools, to the application of artificial intelligence, to the latest research opportunities

Ausra Kairaityte Uzupe VU KNFDr. Aušra Kairaitytė-Užupė, a member of the research group “Culture and Digital Humanities at the Institute of Languages, Literature and Translation Studies of the Kaunas Faculty, took part in the winter training week at Leiden University in the Netherlands in the framework of the “Erasmus+"” program of Vilnius University. During the visit, the researcher got acquainted with the activities of the Digital Laboratory of Leiden University, attended the Digital Humanities Pilot Projects Symposium, and took part in the Digital Skills Workshop.

The visit confirmed the researcher's view that digital humanities, which links social sciences and arts with information technologies, are becoming increasingly important. The rapid development of technology offers more and more new opportunities for the application of methods to process data and pose new research questions, and the challenges posed by the interaction between humans and technology are becoming more pressing.
