Since the very “dawn” of the faculty‘s life, three major scientific areas have co-existed, namely, social sciences, informatics and humanities. These sciences formed a unique interdisciplinary environment for research and education, which has no analogies in Lithuania. Research in informatics has been carried out for more than a decade now. It is the third research area developed by the faculty. This area not only is a branch of high information technologies, but also influences research methods in humanities and social sciences, provides tools for modern communication and modelling. As a result of an enormous scientific scope, the faculty aims at, the Sociocultural Research Centre was established. It unites the potential of the faculty’s science and develops the research areas of humanities (language and cognition) and social sciences (business environment factors).
The results of science and research integration are reflected in:
- The process of study and science integration;
- Scientific articles, which are reviewed by foreign specialists and submitted to the scientific journals published in the faculty, namely a quadrilingual (Lithuanian, English, Russian, Polish) RESPECTUS PHILOLOGICUS (articles in the sphere of humanities) and a journal in English, TRANSFORMATIONS IN BUSINESS & ECONOMICS (articles in the sphere of social sciences);
- Monographs, scientific books and methodical resources;
- Special material of national and international scientific conferences and seminars
A special attention in the faculty is paid to the training of doctoral students and young scientists. At the moment, there are 36 doctoral students in the fields of social, physical sciences and humanities. In 2002, young scientists established an International Young Scientists Group, which initiates scientific research, organizes various conferences for MA and doctoral students, where they present their own scientific findings. The faculty’s doctoral students are involved in:
- Pedagogic activities
- Profile research of the Sociocultural centre
- The organization of seminars and conferences for doctoral students
- The organization and implementation of projects with foreign scientific institutions

- 13. Modelling and management of Lithuania’s social and economic development
Humanitary Sciences
- 21. Poetics, Rhetoric and Linguistics; namely, Fundamental and Applied Research of Artistic and Non-artistic Texts
Physical sciences
- 41. Informatics: identification processes, data analysis and visualization, optimisation, artificial intelligence, the modelling of processes and systems, mathematic logic and discrete structures, innovative teaching methods.
Technological Sciences
- 42. The technologies of images and signals, parallel calculations, system engineering, estimate experiments, application of information technologies
Productive ties with foreign universities and Lithuanian scientific institutions provide the possibility to develop the faculty’s scientific potential.
