The establishment of the Faculty of Humanities was, most probably, the first postwar attempt to “humanise” the Kaunas City worn down by technocrats, and since I first and foremost associate Kaunas with a city of humanist culture, I had no doubts as to where I should study. The old walls of the Faculty, the Aula in the Church and almost Oxford-like arches in the library do leave an imprint. We would study, organise rebellious acts and drink wine looking at the Vytautas Magnus Bridge. Everything was as it was supposed to be. I would relive it.

Rasa Vileikytė,

Executive at the Molas supermarket

I have been working with real estate objects for four years now. My job as an executive in a well-known object in the Kaunas City, supermarket and service centre MOLAS that belongs to BPT Optima Retail Ltd., allows me using the knowledge I acquired during my studies in VU KHF and becoming the president of the Students’ Representative. The knowledge I use most is from the lectures of management, informatics, management of organisations, and the knowledge acquired in Marketing MA level study programme are useful in attempts to remain in the competition within the Kaunas City market. It wasn’t difficult to find a job because my BA degree and my managerial experience during my time of the aforementioned presidency have become an evident advantage among other candidates. The managerial knowledge that I have an opportunity to deepen and practice helps to climb the career ladder and find it fulfilling that the studies I once chose enable me to live, anchor and create a family in Lithuania.

During my studies at the BA level, I chose subjects related with the field of Finance because that was where my main interest was, i.e. financial markets and economic modelling. Later on, I continued to deepen my knowledge in the MA level study programme Accounting, Finance and Banking. This study programme is truly universal and useful for every student as it encompasses three fields, which provides an opportunity to form an individual speciality by choosing different alternatives according to one’s interest in one or another direction.

Studying in Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty of Humanities has become a basis in aiming for my career goals. Currently, I have a very interesting job in the Central Bank of Lithuania which includes analysing economic situations on the international level, compare the appeal options of different classes of capital within the framework of economic environment conditions. I participate in the development of strategies that aim at helping to effectively manage foreign resources by creating comparative indices, modelling various investment strategies, making decisions related to inclusion or exclusion of different classes of capital.

I’ve been the centre of attention since I can remember as I’ve always been the one to take initiative to act. Thus, I was looking for studies where I would have a lot of space to express my creativity. I used to think, and still do, that my choice of the Cultural Management studies was a good decision. One should not think that cultural management and creativity are the same thing, i.e. the study programme educates those who admire being “éminence grises” responsible for those who climb on stage, what that stage looks like, where it is located, who sells tickets, who is responsible for advertising and how others will find out about an event rather than wanting to be on stage themselves. My job gives me a rush of adrenalin and satisfaction. The Cultural Management study programme was that the impetus that motivated me to establish my own business as an agent of cultural business and art.

Jurgita Laurinaitytė–Stadalienė,

Creative project manager at the public relations agency PR Service / Edelman Affiliate

Over the three years I have had this job in the public relations agency, I have already acquainted myself with the sectors of health care, motors, computers, agriculture, aviation, many various products and services. I have learnt the subtleties of not only my trade, i.e. writing, but also planning, administration, calculations, consulting, leadership… There is no boredom here, while there is plenty of running around. I found this job by the end of my studies. When the first advertisement I created won a prize in a small contest, I was overcome by inspiration and confidence. I wrote a short amusing letter to the agency about how great they were and that I would love to learn from them. I was invited for a period of training of three months and had to put a lot of effort in trying to meet the requirements set by my new employee and writing my final thesis. When I graduated, I had not only the diploma in my hands, but also a steady position in my new job.

Who else, except from ourselves, will believe in us? Go on, colleagues!

Dr. Jovita Nenortaitė,

Project manager at CSC Baltic

nenortaiteStudies in Vilnius University is the warmest memory. The Faculty is exceptional because of not only the aura surrounding it, but also because it encompasses those fields that are by standard thought to be incompatible. “Businessmen” and philologists don’t usually have a very good opinion about one another, yet the studies made us learn from each other. The studies in the Business Information Systems study programme motivated us to take an interest in marketing, literature, cinema, yet we were able to avoid fluttering about because we had to learn to count money and time, understand economics, informatics and politics. Therefore, we learnt to be curious and practical at the same time, which was a huge gift that we got from the lecturers and the Faculty!
