History
The Department of Philosophy and Political Science was established in 1989. The lecturers in this department delivered lectures in the direction of Humanities for all the students of the Faculty. In 2002, the Department began to implement the Cultural Management (BA level) study programme and was reorganised into the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies. Since 2011, supplementary studies were begun with the focus on the college graduates, and since 2012, the Department has been implementing a one and a half year long Art Management (MA level) study programme. The Department had the following heads: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rūta Samulionienė, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jūratė Černevičiūtė, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jūratė Svičiulienė, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Donatas Pilinkus. Currently, the head of the Department is Prof. Dr. Virginija Jurėnienė.
Currently, the Department contains highly qualified lecturers in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences:
- 1 professor;
- 1 partnership professor;
- 4 associate professors;
- 5 lecturers.
Practice
The students of the Cultural Management study programme carry out professional practice in Lithuanian cultural and art institutions; National Kaunas Drama Theatre, Kaunas State Philharmonic Society, Kaunas VII Fort, Museum of War, etc. Especially close connections with organisations are developed by means of case studies when students work in teams with the lecturers and the directors of particular organisations thus suggesting and implementing actual solutions. BA and MA level students study abroad on the basis of ERASMUS Exchange, i.e. in Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia.
The Department is proud of its graduates. Milda Mitkutė has launched a clothing swap portal www.manodrabuziai.lt with highly qualified employees. Danas Viluckas established a public enterprise ARTima kutūra which organises important cultural events, for instance, the traditional Christman Town in Kaunas Hall. Indrė Valantinaitė is an author of elegant and subtle poetry (poetry set Žuvim ir lelijom) who is also an active member and nominee of Poezijos pavasaris (en. Poetry Spring). Dovilė Butnoriūtė is the initiator and organiser of the Street Music Day in Kaunas and the leader of the music band Open Culture.

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY
Lecturers of the Department conduct scientific research within the framework of Society, Culture and Consumption. Gender research (gender participation on politics and everyday life) and research of the changing tendencies of the concept of Social Culture have been implemented, the development of culture business in Lithuania has been analysed, the role of cultural and creative industries in the social framework of a city (region) has been investigated, and consumer behaviour research and modelling have been carried out.
