The activities performed by speech processing and experimental phonetics group cover two main areas. The group carry out research on processing everyday speech signals, speech recognition, speech processing, statistical classification, acoustic modelling techniques that could improve automatic recognition systems of spoken language. The focus is on speech recognition of spoken Lithuanian. The group also searches for universal ways that might be applied to other speech recognition systems. Interests of the scientific group also include analysis of phonetic features of spoken Lithuanian and analysis and description of fundamental features of phonetic units. While co-working with the group, three doctoral students (Lidija Kaukėnienė, Robertas Kudirka, Kęstutis Driaunys) defended their doctoral dissertations. Currently, a doctoral student Kęstutis Tomkevičius cooperates with the group. Scientists of the group were involved and participated in several European projects: the COST activities COST278 and COST2102, a project “Balsai” (in Lithuanian), initiated by the State Studies Foundation and performed according to the high-tech development program.
