Accept "VU Summer challenge" and friendly compete among VU community

2 copyLike every year, with summertime comes Vilnius University Summer Challenge. Every hot season this game reminds to be physically active and invites to compete in a friendly manner within VU community.

During the Challenge, from the 1st of June to 31st of August, all members of VU community will compete on the physical activity scale: students, lecturers, researchers, administrators, and other employees. VU Summer Challenge invites you to challenge yourself and your colleague during the summer season, and to develop a healthy habit (or not to forget it during the holidays).

Expanding International Cooperation in the Master Study Programme "International Business Management"

Prof., Dr. Ingrida Šarkiūnaitė and one of the committee members, Assist. Dr. Rasa Bartkutė, met with the representatives of the Manipal Center for European Studies (Manipal Academy of Higher Education, India) Assist. Prof. Richa Gupta and Academic Affairs Coordinator Jyothi Kumar.

The guests aimed to discuss various possibilities of cooperation with the lecturers of the International Business Management programme in the fields of science and studies, such as preparing joint tasks, projects, as well as student exchange opportunities. "My colleagues and I from Manipal went through the programme structure in Master in International Business Management at Vilnius University and were so pleased to realize the mutual academic connect between the programmes offered at our institutions. We see a lot of opportunities for cooperation,” – the Academic Affairs Coordinator Jyothi Kumar revealed to the representatives of VU Kaunas Faculty.

Cybersecurity risk management: tips and examples

2023.05.30 Cybersecurity risk managementOn May 30, 2023 at 16.00 cybersecurity and risk professional CISO at a fintech company and a member of Women4Cyber Lithuania Aušra Dilijonaitė will speak on Cybersecurity risk management: tips and examples. The lecture will be held in English on Teams platform, the link to join the lecture online: https://bit.ly/425vR5B

During the lecture, Aušra will share her experience, lessons learned and some examples from designing risk management programs, processes and conducting risk assessments of different types, including organization-wide, onsite and cloud infrastructure, industrial control systems, critical infrastructure, IT systems and applications.

Jeannette Littlemore is Chair of the Association for Researching and Applying Metaphor (RaAM) and Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Department of English and Linguistics at the University of Birmingham. Her research interests include figurative language, the functions of metaphor and metonymy in linguistic communication, and the influence of emotion on figurative language use.

Register your team for Cyber Battle of Nordic-Baltics 2023

Cyber Battle of Nordic-Baltics2023.05.10 Cyber Battle of Nordic Baltic 2023 registration encourages ICT teachers and educators to find the interested students and form their own teams and register for the competitions of ethical hacking this autumn. Alongside with the tournament for youth, a networking and learning opportunity for the teachers, educators, policy makers and cyber education enthusiasts called Cybercation – Nordic-Baltic Educators’ Forum will take place on 11 November in Tartu, Estonia. The forum is organised by the Nordic Council of Ministers' office in Estonia and CTF Tech. Read more about the forum here.

Cyber Battle of Nordic-Baltics 2023 is the biggest students’ ethical hacking event in the Nordic-Baltic region which aims to raise awareness of young people and educational institutions on cyber security. The competition is organised in cooperation with CTF Tech. It’s goal is to teach cyber security fundamentals in practical, realistic, and ethical manner in order to improve the cyber security skills in the region and thus make it more stable and secure.

The Battle will take place on 11 November in Tartu, Estonia. However, local teams will have to pass through the semi-final competition during the virtual bootcamp on 22–24 September. Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Estonia is covering the travelling expenses for the best teams from each country to participate in the grand finale.  Who?

  • The event is aimed at young people in the age of 15-24 who are interested in the cyber world but have no previous exposure or experience in the field.
  • Teams consisting of 3-5 members from all Nordic-Baltic countries are welcomed to take part.
  • This year there is also an opportunity to participate with “girls only” team. They have the same tasks, but compete against other “girls only” teams.

When?

  • Virtual bootcamp led by the cyber experts for the Nordic-Baltic teams will take place on 22-24 September, both days from 11am till 3.30pm (EET). Bootcamps are followed by self-studying the additional materials. At the end of the bootcamp semi-final will take place, where the best national teams will be selected.
  • Final competition for the best teams will take place on November 11 in Tartu, Estonia.

  • During the two-day cyber course, our cybersecurity experts will provide you with the basic knowledge and skills to work in the cyber world using a fun learning environment.
  • You will acquire basic knowledge on the following topics: Linux Basics, Port Scanning, DNS (name server) and Web Server Listing, Brute-Forcing, Metaslpoit, Cyber Security and Cyber Wisdom, Steganography, Cryptography, Web Vulnerabilities, Security Vulnerabilities.
  • And last, but not least you will gain an insight into the minds of hackers.

Last year, in the contest of ethical hacking  Cyber Battle of Nordic-Baltics 2022, Lithuania was represented by the team of second-year students of the bachelor's study program Information Systems and Cyber Security of Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty named "ITGuys N' Routers" and won the 7th place in the battle.
