17-th prof. Vladas Gronskas International Scientific Conference (December 2nd, 2022) invites master's, doctoral and other researchers working in the field of social sciences and applied informatics to share their discoveries, disseminate scientific ideas and establish academic contacts at the most important classical (comprehensive) university of science in Lithuania!

Congratulations to Dr Vladislav Fomin, Distinguished Professor at Vilnius University, whose journal “Information & Media” has become the most read scientific journal of 2021.

The Institute of Social Sciences and Applied Informatics at the Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty is continuing the Prof. Vladas K. Gronskas seminar cycle, devoted to the analysis of a state's sustainable development in the context of a mixed economy.

The sixteenth seminar "Universities, Sustainability and Climate Change: towards integrated approaches" will take place on 21 September 2022 at 15.00 (language of the presentation - English).

Congratulations to those of you who have become part of the Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty community this year! Hopefully, the studies you have chosen will pave a path not only for your professional growth, but also for your personal development.

We would also like to congratulate all of our higher-course students and encourage them to continue discussing their ideas and exchanging knowledge in the 2022-2023 academic year, so that they become outstanding experts in their field.

More about the project:

The OPUS project (“Open Universal Science”) involves 18 different European partners, covering a wide range of organisations with relevant expertise to this project. Dr Gordon Dalton, Senior Research Fellow at PLOCAN, is coordinator of OPUS. 

OPUS will develop coordination and support measures to reform the assessment of research and researchers at Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) and Research Funding Organisations (RFOs) towards a system that incentivises and rewards researchers to practise Open Science.

There has been a recent upward trend in cyberattacks and data breaches, in particular due to insufficient data protection measures and a lack of preparedness, as well as an increasing number of attacks in the workplace, including hacking into mobile devices and exploiting IoT vulnerabilities, according to Varonis statistics. IBM says 19% of breaches are due to stolen login credentials, 16% of breaches are due to fraud, and 15% of breaches are due to improper cloud service settings. The principles of remote working, as demonstrated by the Covid-19 pandemic, have only increased the need for data protection measures and the need to be properly prepared to use them and to be able to detect cyberattacks.

One of the preventive measures is to increase cyber security, which is why VU Kaunas Faculty, together with partners from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Cyprus and Malta, noticed the increasing trend of attacks using various online fraud schemes and decided a year and a half ago to develop an online course called CyberPhish to help people recognise phishing attacks, understand the consequences and responsibilities, and know what to do if their data has been compromised.
