BEYOND WORDS: PERSUASIVE NARRATIVES AND MULTIMODAL DISCOURSE

We are pleased to invite you to the upcoming conference BEYOND WORDS: PERSUASIVE NARRATIVES AND MULTIMODAL DISCOURSE. This scientific event will explore the intersection of language, visuals, gestures, and narratives in shaping persuasive communication. Academics, researchers, and practitioners are invited to submit their abstracts on a wide array of topics within the realm of multimodal discourse.
Abstracts of the conference will be published in the online proceedings. The authors will have the opportunity to present full papers for the publication in the scientific journal Respectus Philologicus (https://www.journals.vu.lt/respectus-philologicus/).
CONFERENCE TOPICS
Media and the Discourse Analysis: Analyzing the multimodal elements in media narratives, understanding their influence on public opinion and discourse; uncovering the layers of meaning within diverse contexts, unravelling the power of language in shaping narratives.
Multimodality: Exploring the synergy of various communication modes, including text, image, sound, and more, in creating persuasive narratives.
Translation: Exploring the avenues, challenges and solutions translating multimodal content across languages and cultures; investigating the art, norms and techniques transferring verbal and non-verbal, acoustic and visual elements in audiovisual media.
Advertising and Commercials: Analyzing persuasive techniques in multimodal advertising campaigns and their impact on audience behavior.
Literature: Delving into the multimodal aspects of literary texts, including creative writing, digital literature, and interactive storytelling.
Semiotics: Decoding the signs and symbols that constitute meaning, delving into the semiotic aspects of multimodal communication.
Linguistics (Semantics, Pragmatics): Investigating the semantic and pragmatic dimensions of language, uncovering the subtleties of meaning and communication.
Sociolinguistics: Examining the social aspects of language use, exploring how sociolinguistic factors influence multimodal discourse.
Gesture Studies: Investigating the role of gestures and non-verbal communication.
Art, Culture, and Creativity: Exploring the intersection of art and multimodal communication, examining how visual arts contribute to persuasive narratives and discourse.
Duration of the presentation 20 minutes.
Poster presentations are welcome as well.
Conference languages: English, Lithuanian.

Notification of acceptance will be sent within 5 working days from submission.

Early bird presenter conference fee 120 EUR (registration before October 10, 2024)
Early bird online presenter conference fee 90 EUR (registration before October 10, 2024)
Presenter regular fee 150 EUR (registration after October 10, 2024)

Students’ conference fee 30 EUR
Non-presenter’s fee 30 EUR
The fee includes participation in all sessions, conference documentation, conference programme, certificate, conference abstrct book, welcome reception and coffee breaks.
N.B. If there is more than one author presenting a paper, the speaker fee should be paid for the presenter; if other authors plan to attend the conference as listeners, they should pay the listener fee. If they do not plan to attend at all, but are only co-authors of the paper, there is no fee.
